Great article, James. Very insightful. One additional factor to consider, imo: Certain tactics might have a positive effect in one country/region, but negative spillover effects in others. I sometimes wonder whether a movement that uses disruptive tactics successful in very democratic countries where the public is open to disruptions will make it harder for advocates of the same movement in less democratic countries.
